Bill Evans Title Sequence

As part of my motion graphics courses at the Academy of Art University, I created a demo project showcasing the usage of track mattes in Adobe After Effects. This project tasks student designers with creating an original title sequence, either from an existing film or a fictional film adaptation of a book. I’ve chosen the biography of seminal jazz piano man Bill Evans, and cast James Franco as the lead. For the project in the course, students are required to create four credits total: two actors, a director, and the title of the film. We also have been known to get dirty with a little india ink and acrylic paint in class for a hands-on activity. Whip out an iPhone and you can create a track matte library in a few hours.
