Great experimental techniques and stories are necessarily original, and when applied to advertising, can illicit a desirable audience reaction for a client: “cool,” “wow,” “LOL,” “weird,” or some combination of the four. The risk typically involved with experimentation can be managed by creating motion tests, effectively proving the concept or technique before production begins. By harnessing the best qualities of experimental film and elegantly integrating the ideas and techniques into a brand message, we can create powerful advertising work which resonates with viewers.

Following the festival and Internet success of his RISD graduation film, Doxology, Michael was contacted by a production company in Barcelona to adapt a scene from the film for a Skoda car commercial. Since then, he’s been creating commercials with an experimental bent for clients such as Nike, Samsung, and Art.com, while continuing to develop a body of independent short films.
